Expanded A-League for PES 2014

Welcome. This non-blog was set up to share my very humble attempt at making Australian football clubs available in PES 2014 for PC.

Given the nature of the game and especially the master league mode, I have taken many liberties to make it work the way I wanted it to, but you can always edit the whole thing further to your liking.

I obviously edited the new PAS League, located in Asia, which allows three teams to qualify for the AFC Champions League.

First of all, we have the 10 Hyundai A-League clubs with their actual squads. The stats are based on Konami’s, using the licenced version of Central Coast Mariners as a reference (they had an overall rating of 75), and are as accurate as possible, in my view and given my limited knowledge of each players’ characteristics. Most of the faces are not very accurate (but neither are Konami’s, except for the star players), as it would have been too time-consuming to make them well. The kits are as accurate as possible in terms of design as the internal editor allowed me to make them, so the number and name print font is not the official one (if anyone knows how to import the official font in the data files, please let me know, it would look awesome indeed). I only kept the major sponsors on the chest (much more stylish without all the little ones, in my opinion) and I moved the dreaded A-League patch to the right sleeve. All in all, I think they look pretty convincing, anyway.

I then expanded the league to 16 teams. Northern Fury are back in (they might be in 2018, anyway), and I resurrected Gold Coast United. The other expansion teams are Canberra United (based on the W-League outfit), Tasmania United (based on the current but apparently pretty dormant A-League bid), Greater Geelong Galaxy (another prospective bid), and Port Darwin FC (it seemed nice to give NT a spot and make it a truly national league). I thought it would be nice to get an Australian marquee for each of the new teams, and I also brought back all the Australian players listed as free agents. You’ll find Wilkshire, Susak, and Leckie in Geelong, Kwame Yeboah, McGowan, and Tim Cahill in GCU (I guess if Palmer were sane and hadn’t destroyed the club, he’d be the one person able to pay Timmy’s salary); Bresciano, Josh Kennedy, and Holland up in Darwin, Neill and Valeri in Canberra, Holman and McBreen in Fury (along with Italian marquee Camporese), Langerak and Rukavitsya in Tasmania. You can always remove them or move them around, of course, but this half-fantasy, higher-profile A-League is pretty fun to play with, to be honest.

Being a ML aficionado, I couldn’t resist introducing promotion/relegation by turning the PDII League into a National Premier League featuring a selection from the various states NPLs.

Wollongong Wolves
MetroStars
Broadmeadow Magic
Sunshine Coast Fire
South Melbourne
Brisbane Strikers
Perth SC
Marconi Stallions
Sutherland Sharks
Green Gully Cavaliers
South Hobart
Adelaide City
Bayswater City
Dandenong Thunder
Darwin Olympic
Heidelberg Warriors
Belconnen Blue Devils
Western Pride

The selection is, first of all, entirely arbitrary, but loosely based on clubs’ tradition, their suitability for an eventual A-League promotion (for the sake of which I slightly changed a few things in terms of names, logos, and sponsors for a handful of teams), and my personal taste. Most of them are pretty accurate, especially in terms of kits and overall ratings, but there are a few made up squads (Belconnen and Darwin Olympic) since I couldn’t find their rosters, and certainly many mistakes in terms of players’ positions and looks and so on. Again, it seems to work fine, and if something doesn’t suit you, you can always edit anything you want to change.

Finally, the PAS Cup obviously became the much-anticipated FFA Cup and will feature the 16 A-League clubs plus the best 16 NPL club in a single-match knockout competition.

If anyone has corrections, please submit them, and I’ll try to fix things if/when I have time. If anyone has more accurate faces, kits, balls, adboards, official fonts or anything else, feel free to share them here.

Here you’ll find all the info you need to install theĀ files.

Have fun playing, and please do leave a comment if you like the OF.

  1. Hi

Thanks for making this effort, I know it’s not easy I just wanted to let you that you are appreciated.

My question is, are you going to make a patch for the upcoming PES15 on PS4? I wanna know this, because I’m considering getting it and would love to know it would be available before I delve into the game.

    Many thanks.

    • Hey mate, thanks for that. It was good fun, actually. I am glad someone else is enjoying it. I only do PC, as that’s all I play. I might end up doing the same for PES 2015 but it depends on so many factors (time, game structure, editing tools available) that I can’t really say much.

I do have plans to update this version with the upcoming season signings and transfers, though, as soon as I have a bit of time. Any news will appear here, anyway.

      Cheers, and enjoy.

  2. fantastic work mate, it’s crazy to see South Hobart and Tasmania in PES!!! Are you working on a PES 2015 version?
